We're planning to retire early and are rethinking how we handle our mortgage. If we pay it off, we'll have less cash coming in each month but more ownership in our home. Has anyone else thought about this trade-off?

Paying it off cuts expenses and removes interest, but it also locks up cash in the house. The trade off is liquidity versus lower fixed costs

I paid mine off before retiring because I didn’t want the stress of a monthly bill when income slowed down. Sure, it ties up money, but knowing I can live lean if needed feels worth it. Are you in a high property tax area though? That can change the math.
