I'm trying to get a handle on a couple of money questions. First, do you guys generally think owning a home is always smarter than renting? 2nd, is having a mortgage always better than being debt-free? I'd love to get your take on these debates.

Let's settle it once and for all LOL

If you're chasing FIRE, debt-free feels a lot better than "cheap leverage." Owning a house is nice, but only if the costs don't eat you alive... repairs, taxes, insurance. Sometimes renting and investing the difference is the smarter play.

Neither is always smarter, it really depends on your goals, cash flow, and risk tolerance. Owning can build equity and give stability, but renting offers flexibility and fewer maintenance headaches. A mortgage can make sense if the interest rate is low and you invest the extra cash wisely, but being debt free gives peace of mind and guaranteed savings
