I'm currently putting together my early retirement plan and could really use some advice. I'm particularly interested in detailed strategies for budgeting for healthcare and getting a clear sense of what those costs might be like after I stop working.

If you've already gone through this or have a good system set up, I'd love to hear how you handled it. Any tips, resources, or even rough estimates on costs would be super helpful!

A Health Savings Account is an incredibly powerful tool if you have access to a high-deductible health plan now.
These funds grow tax-free and can be used for qualified medical expenses, including pre-Medicare premiums and even some Medicare premiums.
You can also check HealthCare.gov, particularly the Affordable Care Act (ACA).
Costs vary significantly by age, location, and income, but many early retirees qualify for substantial subsidies that can drastically reduce monthly premiums.
COBRA is another option, though it's typically much more expensive, often $700-$1,500+ monthly, and only lasts 18 months.
Then once you hit 65, Medicare becomes your primary coverage.

Great question! A few strategies that helped, you can try looking into ACA Marketplace plans with subsidies, build up an HSA if you're eligible, and consider long-term care insurance early while rates are lower. I agree with @FrugalLyf there, have you already looked into priced out COBRA or spousal coverage options?

I feel like healthcare planning is one of those topics that really benefits from hearing multiple perspectives since everyone's situation is different, I'd love to see more responses on this thread
