This might be more of a relationship post than a finance post, but I need advice, we've been together for three years, living together for one, and we're starting to have serious disagreements about money and future plans. I'm 29 and deep into the FIRE journey and I'm maxing out my 401k, have a solid side hustle, investing aggressively, tracking every expense. I'm targeting retirement by 45, maybe 50 at the latest. She is also 29 but has a completely different outlook and when I try to talk about retirement planning or suggest cutting back on some expenses, I get accused of being controlling or no fun.
Something that disturbs me is that we make similar salaries, but I'm building wealth and my partner is basically living otherwisely not in a terrible way but not just too wise. We keep our finances separate right now, but if we're going to get married or have kids like we've talked about, this divide feels like it's going to blow up eventually.
I think she thinks I'm obsessed with money and missing out on life but I think she's being short sighted and setting us up for having to work into our 70s, do people with opposite money philosophies ever make it work ? PS, I'm not asking for break up advise here
