Gabapentin and side effects?

I've been dealing with some pretty persistent nerve pain in my lower back for the past few months, pretty sure it's sciatica flaring up. I just filed for early retirement last month and it's frustrating how this is getting in the way of a lot of the active stuff I plan to do.

My doctor just prescribed Gabapentin and I'm a little hesitant given some of the side effects I've read about online. I read dizziness, fatigue, and brain fog but my biggest concern is blurred vision!

Has anyone here been on Gabapentin for nerve pain or anything else? What was your experience with the side effects, especially at the beginning? Did they eventually go away? Just trying to get a realistic picture before I start taking it. I just really want to stay sharp and active!

I was on it for a few months and the brain fog hit me hard at first. But I mean it eased up after a couple weeks. So I guess everyone reacts differently. You should definitely take it slow and keep your doctor in the loop.

Gabapentin gets prescribed far too easily, many people report fogginess, dizziness, or dependency while still battling pain. It's controversial because lifestyle changes or alternative therapies often provide relief without the same cognitive trade-offs or long-term risks
